Australian makeup artist Heidi Hamoud has broken down several intimidating skills—like baking and color correction—into easy-to-follow steps, and in the tutorial below she simplifies yet another trend. Strobing has garnered attention recently as an alternative to traditional contouring and highlighting, but it's also easy to overdo. Hamoud gives us a detailed walkthrough on how to achieve this coveted youthful radiance without going overboard.

Strobing is all about emphasizing a dewy, healthy complexion, so it's crucial to take care of your skin before applying any makeup. Hamoud mentions that she has dry skin, so she devotes special attention to moisturizing the driest areas of her face. Another thing to remember when strobing that that placement matters. Rather than apply her illuminators and highlighters all over her face (which could give off an oily or sweaty appearance), Hamoud concentrates the products in specific areas: the high points of the cheekbones, just above the brows, the browbones, the inner corners of the eye, the tip of the nose, the cupid's bow, and the chin. The final look is glowy and glam without being overwhelming, and Hamoud balances out her intense glow with minimal makeup elsewhere. Let us know how you feel about strobing in the comments section, and be sure to check us out on YouTube and Instagram!
