Running late but still want to have the best eye makeup in the room? This eyeshadow makeup tutorial is about to change the way you think about applying your favorite smokey eye.

If you've ever browsed Pinterest or YouTube, you have most likely seen beauty "hacks" promising to save you time, money and effort. It's only natural to be skeptical of these tips, so Bay Area-based YouTuber Nicole Skyes created a series called "Beauty Hack or Wack?" to put popular beauty myths to the test and determine which ones hold true. Whether it's using baby powder to add volume to her eyelashes, applying mascara as liquid eyeliner or powdering her lipstick through tissue paper to make it last longer, Skyes is committed to finding the truth amidst the false claims.

After seeing a fellow blogger rclbeauty101 create her own DIY press-on eyeshadow (not unlike these Eye Envy Kits that retail for $20 each), Skyes attempts to replicate this eye makeup idea. Following the instructions in the original eyeshadow makeup tutorial, Skyes applies eyeshadow onto a wet piece of foam paper. Initially, she uses the brightest colors available — fittingly, the shades are from the Urban Decay Electric Palette — in thick stripes to determine whether the pigment will actually transfer onto her eyelids. As a "more practical test," Skyes creates a softer, subdued look with the Urban Decay Naked Smoky eyeshadow palette on the other wet piece of foam paper.

Once the foam paper has been prepared, Skyes sets to work. She uses Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer on her eyelids, but this process may work equally well (or even better) with eye makeup primer specifically designed for that area. From there, all that's left to do is press the foam paper onto her primed eyelids and gently peel them away after a few seconds.

As you might expect, the eye with the bright colors looks quite bold, but the foam paper with the neutral eyeshadow yields results that Skyes observes "looks like how I would style my eyeshadow every day." Of course, the application is not perfect, but the shadow only requires minimal blending around the edges to clean up. In sum, Skyes declares this eye makeup idea a "hack" because of how well the pigment transfers from the foam paper onto her eyelids.

If you're struggling with how to apply eye makeup quickly, this nifty trick will save tons of time in the morning. As Skyes writes in the YouTube video description, it's possible to make a bunch of press-on eyeshadow tattoos ahead of time and simply re-wet the foam paper when you're ready to use them. You'll have an arsenal of customized looks at your fingertips that can be achieved in an instant.
